A Blogger's Guide to Hashtags for Instagram

So you finally have your Instagram aesthetic down, and your grid is looking better than ever. You think you're on your way to Instagram stardom with each new post, and yet, your photos are still getting the same number of likes.
...what's up with that?
Thanks to the everchanging algorithm (and the dreaded follow/unfollow game), it can feel impossible to grow on Instagram. As a young blogger trying to overcome the struggle to be seen, I know this frustration firsthand. Truthfully, I don't know why Instagram makes it so hard, and I'm definitely not an Instagram expert, but I do know this: you can't expect your following to grow or your likes to double if your audience can't find you.
So if you're using Instagram to grow your blog, listen up ladies. Hashtags are an absolute must. But more importantly, how you hashtag can't be an after thought. Each hashtag should be intentionally chosen based on the visual content of the photo being shared.
For example, if you're posting a photo from your lazy Sunday at home, hashtags like #thisishome, #theartofslowliving + #nothingisordinary are perfect.
But if you're sharing a recent trip to the beach with your girlfriends, you should include a variety of hashtags, like #seastheday, #darlingescapes, #colorcrush + #livethelittlethings. Using a handful of lesser known hashtags is much more strategic than using something more generic like #beach. In some instances, there are just too many people using a common hashtag for your post to stand out and rank well.
