Lewes, DE is for the Ladies
After a fun-filled weekend in Bethany Beach, Delaware, Kristina, Kerin and I were not ready for our girl's trip to end. So, avoiding dreadful Memorial Day Weekend traffic, we took a little detour on the way home. And as you'll see, it was 100% worth it.
Nectar Cafe & Juice Bar
Nothing says, "Let's have a girls day!" like an inviting juice bar in a sleepy little coastal town.
Craving avocado toast and other organic concoctions, we couldn't resist this whimsical, Anthroplogie inspired cafe. We were over the moon to be seated right away at this hip spot tucked away in Neils Alley. And upon the first sip of our juices, we were in ultimate heaven.
Although the spiked juices on the menu were tempting, we decided to take the healthier, more wholesome approach to Monday brunch. I ordered the classic: 'Nectar Punch' (pineapple, raspberry, strawberry, apple, orange + grape), Kerin tried 'Good Morning Sunshine' (cantaloupe, banana, orange + pineapple) and Kristina drank her greens via 'Smarty Pants' (spinach, kale, apple, basil, flaxseed, chia seed + hemp seed.)
I'm sure you're wondering about the food (which was just as tasty), but I was off taking photos of practically every inch of the place. Haha -- are you surprised? Whoever decorated didn't take a single nook or teeny detail for granted, and the uniqueness of that made for such an enjoyable experience.
Anyway, about the food. We all seemed to love our picks equally (something about farm fresh ingredients make you feel less guilty about ordering blueberry pancakes at 2 in the afternoon) and we even shared a grilled cheese with tomato soup and sweet potato chips because how could we not? No shame, whatsoever.
Edie Bees Confection Shop
If you think Nectar is a sweet space, you'll fall in love all over again with Edie Bees right down the street. With floor to ceiling shelving, over 220 glass jars and candies categorized by color, it's not your average candy shop.
With so many options, we spent longer than I'd like to admit strategically filling our white paper bags with sweets to snack on during the ride home. While Kristina and I loaded up on gummies galore, Kerin chose between chocolates.
Twenty-two years young, I was quite literally as happy as a kid in a candy shop.
Lewes, Delaware: the First Town in the First State
'Dela-where??' is a laughable pun that you may have heard before, but there's also some truth behind it. Given the choice, the state of Delaware probably isn't the first place on a map you'd think of to spend a day with the girls. But I guess the jokes on us, huh? Because Delaware is so underrated, and I hope I was able to help you see why.
Nectar and Edie Bees alone are destinations worth driving to. But these picture-perfect, happy places are just a sneak peek at all of the charm Lewes has to offer! You won't find a Starbucks for miles, but that's part of what makes small towns like Lewes so refreshing, fun to explore and full of enchantment. So when in Lewes, forget about 'Fivebucks' and sip on a latte from Notting Hill Coffee instead...
When you buy from a small business, an actual person does a little happy dance.
Stroll the quiet neighborhood streets lined with quaint summer cottages | Browse privately owned boutiques on 2nd Street | Bury your toes in the sand at Cape Henlopen State Park | cruise down the Delaware Bay by boat | Order a Salted Caramel Crunch cone at King's Homemade Ice Cream Shop (trust me!) | Crack open a cold one at Crooked Hammock Brewery | Buy a used book at Biblion and read it under the gazebo in Mary Vessels Park
And when you're planning your next getaway with the girl, remember... Lewes is for the ladies.
